Protecting Maryland’s Deer Creek from Urban Depletion
In November 2004, on behalf of the Deer Creek Watershed Association
(DCWA), the Deer Creek Scenic River Advisory Board, the Harford County
Farm Bureau, the Deer Creek Legacy Board, and several individuals, the
Center filed a request for a contested case hearing to challenge a
water withdrawal permit issued by the Maryland
Department of the Environment to the City of Aberdeen. Deer Creek is a
designated Scenic River and the home of two endangered species, the
Maryland darter and the bog turtle. MAELC will also represent its
clients at an upcoming public hearing before the Susquehanna River
Basin Commission opposing its approval of the City’s withdrawal.
